Amendment to Absence Limits for Graduate School Senators

SECTION I.

This bill may be cited as the “Graduate Senators Absence Limit Exemption Act of 2009”

SECTION II.

Article VIII. Meetings and Absences

Section 8.02 Meetings

(a)    Senators or officers are not allowed to miss more than two (2) meetings in any semester (summer semester excluded).

(i)   A special case by case exemption shall be made for all graduate senators who for academic circumstances must be excused for more than two (2) senate meetings.

1) Graduate senators are defined as follows:

i) College of Law Senator

ii) College of Medicine Senator

iii) Graduate Divisional Senators

2) All graduate senators must notify the Speaker of the Senate and the Clerk of Council of the academic circumstance at hand by 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

3)  Each exemption must be approved on a case by case basis at the Speaker’s discretion in order for it to qualify for this exemption.

(b)   To be counted as present, Student Government Council members must be present for a majority of the meeting.
